Thanks Dafi, I hope to get some good pics this weekend at Dirt Fest. It's going to be a great time and everyone is really excited! Too bad you can't come to Dirt Fest with us!

Generally if I ride on the weekend I'll go with some friends. Rides during the week I typically go alone. I work rotating shifts and about 50% weekends so it's hard to get people to ride with during the week, especially since I ride earlier in the day when I have the day off and everyone is working.

Today I went on a ride alone. I rode Mohican again since that is where the race will be in about 2.5 weeks from now. I rode a new personal best "ride time" of 2 hours and 38 minutes on the 24 mile loop. I got a flat tire 2.5 miles into the ride which made my total time end up being 2 hours and 53 minutes. I'm very happy with my times this year, I seem to be riding the loop about an hour faster than this time last year!

Hey guys..

I know that what I'm suggesting sounds ambitious… And Derek – I glad that you are being honest and say your opinion. I believe that you represent what many cyclist would say to themselves. That's because groopy has succeeded to create in Israel a new need that wasn't exists before. That’s way it's hard to get people start being active in groopy and not just to register in the site for the dream Bike bait. It's like the chicken and the egg thing – If people start being active in their local community, others will follow.. Facebook would have been worthless unless people had started using it.

It's obvious that there are cycling clubs and professionals that orgenize cycling trips in different countries includes all… We are not trying to compete that.

We are talking about something else... take a look at the ride sector in groopy Israel:
http://www.groopy.co.il/trips.aspx

The idea is getting together to ride.. a social need not less than the cycling itself… I can honestly say, that groogy changing lives of thousands of people in Israel, in the 10 years it exists. It’s a way to get out of isolation, find new buddies along the way. Getting to know nature and ride in places you'll never get unless someone who knows the way will take you there. Groopy is about spending weekends together.. Helping to find jobs and other needs in time of trouble.. Helping the community..etc.. It's about going to a trip with people you don't know and feel a part. It’s about discovering the bright side of humanity, in a world of interests. Profits and social alienation.

I know it sounds a little naive…but groopy do exists.. We are only trying to pass it forward…
 Sorry about the long speech

Take care …
edited by dafi on 5/15/2012

Lucky you
I ride only once a week, on weekends.. you can look at The Galleries I put and get an idea about the trip ride.. Are you cycling alone by your own or with companion?
I looked at the link of the dirt festival.. looks something different..
I expect to see some photos of the event!
It looks like a lot of fun
Take care..
Dafi
edited by dafi on 5/14/2012

I totally agree and like both of your ideas. I too would like to see this grow into more than a forum and be a cycling community, I'm merely recommending ways to help get new traffic to the site by people using a web search engine. The more key words you have for the web crawlers to pick up on the more traffic could be sent this way. I'll keep spreading the word the best I can and help Groopy grow.

Personally, if I were to look for a riding partner in another country - or here in the UK - I'd look to hook up with a local bike club or one of the other sites that try to match you up with a riding partner.

Also, sports tourism is becoming bigger and there are companies that offer to take tourists riding in addition to arranging accommodations/transportation.

I like the "dream big" thought, but I think it would take many years to get to that point here unless there are partnerships made between Groopy and other sites/companies to significantly draw members from around the globe.

Not being negative. Just being realistic and honest.

Cheers, Derek

Hey Derek & Aaron!

First of all, I want to share my appreciation to you guys for your enormous contribution to groopy – keep it up!!
We appreciate your effort to promote the site and spared the word about it. Keep it up!!

However, I would like to say that groopy is much more than a bicycle forum. We are trying to create a world's cycling community..
In Israel there are about 12 rides a day in avarege and near 100! Rides between Fridays to Saturday… Groopy is a web that helps cyclist find other cyclists to ride with, in different places in Israel… It's free to join, and you don't have to know anyone because you are from groopy. This is the Groopy spirit!.. You just look for a ride to join and pops in!

In addition to that, we believe that groopy.com in addition to local cycling, can be a great way to get together with cyclists from other countries and ride in a country you'd like to visit..
This is the groopy spirit… that's what we want to spared.

Cheers
edited by dafi on 5/13/2012

I noticed that when you google “bicycle forum” groopy comes up near the top. If you google “cycle forum” or “bike forum” groopy doesn’t show up. I still really think that if you revise your <title> tags it would help out membership for when people casually search for a biking forum. “bicycle forums” is in groopy’s <title> tag list but the others are not. "biking forum" would be another good tag to add to the list.

Once you get more traffic coming to the site through search engines it'd also be beneficial to have the contest well advertised on the home page of Groopy. Right now there really isn't anything telling new visitors that there is a promotional giveaway going on.

.
edited by Aaron on 5/12/2012

Topic "2011 Kona 2+2" a message from Aaron

I stand corrected again, lol. The 25 pound bike I talked about was a 2010 Abra Cadabra. The Abra Cadabra and the Cadabra have more suspension travel than the 2+2 which probably would make it even heavier than the 2+2. If the Cadabra line can be built down to 25 pounds I would assume the 2+2 can go even lighter. A stock 2011 Abra Cadabra weighs 28.4 pounds according to Kona's website. Which is probably a medium frame without pedals. My 2011 2+2 is 28.3 pounds with pedals.

24.75 Abra Cadabra

I had my bike shop weigh it since I don't have a proper bike scale. I put a different saddle on it but I don't think that would change the weight very much at all. My 20 inch bike with Crank Brothers Candy pedals came to 28.3 pounds. With lighter parts I've seen the frame built to 25 pounds, but that was probably a smaller sized frame. But still, building it down to 26 pounds would be awesome!
