@Groopy: Great to hear and hope to see it happen. Will you guys be getting a Google+ page as the sharing of Circles would certainly get the name out and hopefully drive traffic here.
@Aaron: If you're sending a plane ticket my way and willing to have a loaner bike ready, I'm more than happy to join you.

Or when we do hit 10,000, we'll be riding rocket bikes and have cars that fly!

Well I'm all signed up for this year Mohican 100! Now I need to start training so I can be prepared. The race is on June 2nd and I plan to camp all weekend at the location. Now all I need is a nice new bike to ride in it, lol. The way membership has stalled I'm not sure we'll ever get to 10,000.

Hey there! Love commuting around my town of Columbia, Missouri, riding mountain bikes in the trails outside of town and down at the lake of the ozarks, and traveling all over the country to play hardcourt bike polo!
Hopefully this website proves to be a great resource for knowledge and entertainment! Ride on, homies.

News: Man who ran down 5 cyclists sentenced

What he got was a joke. I can see if he clipped someone not knowing but running down 5 cyclists and getting 2 years less a day is a Joke. He was probably drunk when it happened and needed to hide out to dry out before turning himself in if he did.

Shimano SLX or XT?

Keep in mind I haven't spent any time on other cross bikes but yes, I would recommend the Ridley. It's very versatile and comfortable. I have 16.5 miles on it this year and a bit over an hour using it on my trainer in my garage. I put 577 miles on it last year and it's been good to me. I like it because it can go more places than a regular road bike can. For instance, there is a public park near me with a 1 mile jogging trail in the woods. Last week it was cold and a bit wet but I wanted to ride so I rode my cross bike to the trail and did 4 laps around the trail for some exercise. I'm still not a fan of how it shifts though, I prefer the trigger shifters of a mountain bike but I know that isn't feasible on road or cross bikes so I’d have to deal with it no matter what brand component or cross bike I had bought.

I think the XT set is the way to go if a new Kona isn't in your immediate future. BTW, now that you have had it for a while, would you recommend the Ridley? I'm looking to get a cyclocross rig.

I love that sight! I have a gift certificate to my bike shop for $250 though, so I'm looking to spend that on something nice. IF I do get a new bike I won't be in the market for new derailleurs, but if I do get new components I probably will go with the XT stuff.

If you think you can convince your wife to let you get that Kona you've been eyeing then I would stick with the SLX but if you are going to be riding your current ride for awhile I would upgrade to the XTs. I found a deal on the previous years XO stuff on blueskycycling.com so it wasn't too much more pricey than the X7 or x9 and I can definitely say it was worth the price.

I did a bit of research and Sram X5 is equivalent to Shimano Deore level components. X0 is equivalent to XT components. My bike currently has Deore derailleurs AND they are original to my bike back from 2007. I'm sure I'll notice a difference whether I changed to current year SLX or XT derailleurs, I'm just wondering if XT is worth the extra money over SLX of the same year. Tough decisions, lol.

Are the X5 and X0 the equivalent of SLX and XT? I'm not to sure how the lineup for Sram products compare to Shimano's.
I was looking at the gear ratios and the difference between a 3x9 and a 2x10. The only thing you lose is the highest and lowest gear ratios. I rarely use either of those out on the trails anyway and could afford to do away with them.
The new Konas are very sweet. I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me get the Abra Cadabra. She isn't giving in yet but I'll keep trying. My bike shop has the Cadabra and a 2x2 in stock and they look amazing. What I like about the Abra Cadabra is that it is light weight. Stock bike weighs in at 27 pounds and I've seen articles and pictures of people building them as low as 25 pounds! Not bad for a 6 inch travel bike not made of plastic.
